The Songs

Below is a partial list of the songs we may play at any given performance.   We have many more songs in our repertoire.  Let’s talk and come up with a combination of tunes that will be perfect for your event.

Autumn Leaves

Slow, jazzy, hauntingly beautiful.

Rivers of Babylon

Old reggae spiritual, with a twist

Wade in the Water

Down and bluesy clarinet/mandolin lead

See you in CUBA

Classic up-tempo Irving Berlin - with a *killer* kazoo duet!

St. Theresa

A Joan Osborne tune with a driving beat.

Los Siente Mi Vida

South of the border ballad.  It sounds like it’s incredibly sad, but I don’t know for sure, because the girls sing it in Spanish…could be the Mexican Hokey Pokey for all I know..

Lucky Flame

Mysterious, almost middle-eastern-sounding slow groove.  The clarinet solo will give you goose bumps.

Brother John/Iko Iko

Mardi Gras time!  Jacamo fina ne.

Angel from Montgomery

Classic old John Prine, ala DupliKates.

Just what I needed

The way the Cars SHOULD have done it – with banjo and clarinet, of course.

Reason to Believe

If I listen long enough to you...

oh good shephard

Jorma Kaukonan's classic

Man gave names to all the Animals

Reggea version of a very silly old Dillon tune.

Green Eyes

Light that candle, baby!

the Isrealites

The first (and one of the best ever) reggae song to ever hit the states

I Fall to Pieces

Patsy, baby!

Lime in the Coconut

A crowd pleaser/audience-participation song.  You are SUCH a silly woman.

Find the Cost of Freedom
Cinnamon Girl/etc

Acoustic Neil Young medley of several songs.  Far out, man.

Rain and Snow

In the style of the Be Good Tanyas - a modern take on an old bluegrass tune

You Gotta Believe

Dan Hicks is NOT the only hip person there is.  I mean, there's the dupliKates too.

I don't want to know

Upbeat Fleetwood Mac hit.  We do it better, though…

walkin one and only

Another swinging Dan Hicks tune.

Danny's All Star Joint

The best song Ricki Lee Jones ever wrote.

evening breeze

Yet another Dan Hicks classic.

Animal Zoo

Fun, up-tempo song originally by Spirit.

Don't

Catchy, clever lyrics - a band favorite.

Littlest Birds

Another Be Good Tanya's tune that will leave you smiling.

Sweetest Gift

Butch sings lead and Chuck brings out the banjo for this slow bluegrass tear-jerker.

Reelin Down

Did we mention that we really like Dan Hicks?

when god dips

Gospel time - very upbeat Alison Kraus tune.

White Rabbit

Yes, it's still rock and roll to me, even if it is on a banjo...

Closer to fine

Classic Indigo girls.

Evergreen

Our take on an upbeat tune written by local artist and personal friend, Dan Smith

I'll fly away

Sad/sweet bluegrassy standard.

Do you want to know a secret

Butch and Chuck swap instruments for this old Beatles tune.  Listen…

knockin on heavens door

Butch sings on this Dylan classic.

You Aint Going Nowhere

Another Bob Dylan tune, done more in the style of the Birds.  Hard not to sing along on the chorus – in fact, we encourage it.

Big Yellow Taxi

Joni Mitchel.  They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot...did she mean Bozeman?

Two of Us

Beatles.

Blue Bayou

Move over Linda Ronstadt

Dimming of the Day

Beautiful song written by Richard Thompson.

Canned Music

Slower tempo Dan Hicks song that tells a story with a lesson ("just don't get too near the band")

Wood Song

Indigo Girls

Louise

Make sure you've got plenty of kleenex and hankies ready for this one.

Paint it Black.

The Stones on banjo!  Paint it black, you devil…

Come to Me

The rock/reggae side of Bonnie Raitt

Trouble (you can’t fool me)

Ry Cooder, David Lindley and Co.

The Buzzard was their Friend

Dan Hicks called this “A little exercise in control…”

In THESE shoes?

“Let’s do it right here….”

The Losing End

About as close as we get to country.  By Neil Young, no less.

Sunshine of your Love

With a banjo?  Far out, man.  Heavy.  Like, wow.

Look at Granny Run

Ry Cooder wrote this 20 years before Viagra was invented.  A visionary.

Summertime/Sunny Afternoon

Gershwin + the Kinks: like peas and carrots.

Flag Decal

Old John Prine anti-war anthem.  Regrettably appropriate again today.

Everything is broken

Dillon.  Some days are like this.

Dig a Pony

Beatles.  Please explain the lyrics to us.

Love in the First Place

Just afraid it might be all right…
